RECLAIM – Writing a screenplay very different
by Barbara ~ August 18th, 2010If you are used to writing books trying to write a screenplay is a mind expander. You must consider all kinds of things you never thought of and get rid of ideas that you always think. Does that make any sense? It is a dance. Get rid of the old thinking to make room for the next step. It’s taken me 2 weeks to write a screenplay. Nothing like a deadline. Sometimes I have to create my own. I decided I’d submit the screenplay to Final Draft and there deadline was ASAP.Once someone filled me in on the right software, Final Draft, it got a lot easier. I was trying to do it in WORD. Big mistake and time consuming. Then I had to get rid of description or at least take it down to the bare bones. The fewer words used the better. Huh! I’m suppose to leave some creative freedom for the director and actors. Can you imagine? One key is to search for ‘ly’ in find. Then basically delete those words. I get to say ‘Christopher walks in.’ I shouldn’t say ‘quietly’ or ‘silently’ that character himself and the situation should reveal that. This is both harder and easier than I ever imagined.
