RECLAIM, Creativity and the White Board

Well, I haven’t even had time to blog in my last ditch effort to write the best possible screenplay for RECLAIM. My last entry was 9/22/10. Right after that I hit a huge wall. Writing this screenplay has been an interesting process. I have two boards up with 3×5 cards and a large third white board. I also used large sheets of paper and colored markers.

Although I’m a huge computer user, I’m in the Apple store weekly to learn. I found that laying out the 3×5′s helped organize my thinking in a different way. They were very useful.

However, when I got stuck creatively, what helped me the most was a white board. Since this screenplay is a dramatic, action, thriller, I needed to make sure my clues were revealed correctly. It is easy to surprise someone with an ending if you don’t give any clues. People don’t like that!

I would lay out my main characters and in a quasi time-line put down they key actions and what was revealed by each and to whom. The white board gave me more creative freedom. I could erase, dry lines, etc. etc. etc. That was the key to my creativity turning into rational thought.

Of course the real inspiration always comes from the Universe. And I will be forever grateful. And I need some now… to break through this last wall.
