Here’s the latest… my screenplay, Reclaim, did not make it into the final 12 at Sundance. Although this wasn’t the news I wanted, I’m still thrilled that my first screenplay made it into the final round. Still a risk I found worth taking and would take again in a second. The next contest is UCLA and Cinestory. I’ll keep you posted as I hear from them. The wisdom I can pass on is that I don’t have a single regret taking a year off to follow my passion. I have no idea where it will all lead; however, I already see a direct impact. In a screenplay, every word, counts. I mean literally. So one must become very judicious as to what words are used where and when. It is easy to still the power out of a scene with one extra sentence or word. This is already translating into my programs and keynotes. Fascinating how people hire you to talk but the most powerful thing you can say is sometimes… nothing.

Since I’ve sent off the final version of my screenplay to Sundance it has felt a little like post-partum blues. I miss the deadlines, as well as, the creative inspiration and flow that I felt everyday for the last few months. It has allowed me to put that creative energy back into other projects that I love like, The Hummingbird Project. I must admit that my ‘old’ personality was fairly driven so it has been an interesting time for me as I practice letting go.There is a fine balance between leading and driving a project. As it turns out I’m actually more comfortable releasing control. As I reflect I’ve learned that I drove projects because that is what ‘others’ believed was necessary. It has been a fabulous process of self-discovery to learn that I much prefer watching the project unfold according to it’s own design, life and timing. Yet that requires TRUST. Surprisingly, I’m grown comfortable with trusting. If you haven’t tried it yourself… I highly recommended it. Life is much more fun this way.

Well, we had our first ‘table read’ and it was awesome to hear it come to life. Of course, I didn’t really know what I was doing… but that is nothing new.

The Final Draft Software that I use has a voice feature which is great. It allows me to hear the script read by the computer at 2 AM without having to call and wake up any of my friends. They are very grateful for that!

Anyway, I invited a bunch of people and we ended up with all of four. That meant that each person was reading multiple parts. Thank goodness everyone there, Vicki, Michael and Maggie are all very organized. They had all their parts highlighted and ready to go.

We did a cold read, which means no one prepared. In fact Michael hadn’t even read through the script. That was AWESOME because I got to see his reactions first hand. In was very rewarding to see him get excited about what might happen next. And even better when he was surprised and didn’t see ‘IT’ coming.

The best part of all is Michael, a guy, was someone I didn’t even really know, at least not personally. He works at Starbucks, which I often frequent. When I mentioned the read he was excited and offered to help. Since all the parts, but the lead, are for men; he was invaluable. I love how the Universe conspires to support this project.

We laughed ate pizza, salad and jelly beans. I am such a health nut. I have wonderful friends, now including Michael, and I’m grateful.

Writing my email today was an interesting experience. At the same time I was excited to share my adventure, and yet I was also very reluctant.

It is interesting how fear raises its ugly head in so many different forms. My fears resolve around being afraid that I may appear arrogant. Or, what if the screenplay is no good and goes nowhere? If I tell the world my hopes then I’ll have to tell them if I fail. That is not appealing.

Yet, all the time I know that I can’t fail. I took a risk. I worked hard. I had the full support and backing of the Universe at every turn. How could I begin to think I’m a failure. Listen to me… I haven’t even heard “no” yet and I’m rambling on about failure. ENOUGH!

One line from my screenplay is… “Let’s resist reacting out of fear and instead choose to love out of hope.” I need to listen to myself. I choose LOVE & HOPE. Amen.

I’ve taken a self-imposed sabbatical for five months. I’ve hardly seen or spoken to anyone. I’ve been completely obsessed with writing the most brilliant screenplay I can and submitting it to Sundance. So, now what? How do I feel?

Complete, proud, grateful and amazed. I had no idea what I was jumping into and I have not a single regret. It really has been the time of my life.

Most importantly I’d like to thank my sons, Connor, Nick and Joey for the endless hours of reading, listening and advising me. Thank you for being more honest than kind.

The three friends who read more versions than any of us can count are Suzy, Vickie and Kim. Thank you.

To all my other friends who helped read, proof and edit. Leslie, Kathy, Irin, Shayna, Tom, Dan, Tom, Steve, Dotti, Kia, Brenda, Thomas, Arnie, Nancy, Kim and Deb. Thank you.

Of course, I’ve probably forgotten to mention someone. Please know that I’m still grateful to everyone who is interested, everyone who’s read a version, everyone who has shown patience with me… Thank you!

Please join me in sending good energy to RECLAIM.

Reclaim was delivered to me through inspiration from the Universe. I’ve been supported by Angels both Divine and Earthly in my pursuit of writing a screenplay that was equal in it’s genius to the original inspiration. I’m humbled that I was chosen for such a daunting project. Everything I needed was provided.

As it turns out this screenplay is all about me. It covers a very long history that I have had with those who have tried to stop my spirituality. I’ve now overcome all that opposition and found my voice.

The greatest gift this process has provided to me is being in FLOW! That means being open and trusting the Universe to provide. It is the best I’ve every felt. Even after sitting at my computer for 20 hours straight, my neck and shoulders were completely relaxed. I didn’t have a single ache or pain.

This has been the most amazing experience of my life and I’m eternally grateful. Thank You Universe!
